What it is: Getting real

When a young Ultraman fanatic discovers a red ball that grants wishes, he brings Gamu to this .world. However, an enemy steals the ball and makes monsters appear, forcing Gamu to fight them as Ultraman Gaia!

It’s very generous for Ultraman Gaia to give his two Ultra predecessors higher billing, especially seeing as to how their appearances amount to cameos whereas Gamu/Gaia does most of the heavy lifting. Still, I have to admit that the premise is a hoot in that Ultraman Gaia appears in the real world where everyone knows his name and secret identity. The concept works very well during the first half, but then reverts to formula; once you have Gaia fighting three monsters, you know they found the opening they need for the cameos. Yes, the movies are kind of fun, but I think the series are superior at this point.
